Brief Profile of the Department


The Department of Chemistry was established in the year, 1959, as an integral part of the Regional Engineering College Warangal (RECW). Since its inception, the Department is rated as one of the most academically active Departments in the Institute. The Department has a two-year M.Sc. Chemistry with specializations in Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry and also offers chemistry course to all engineering branches. A 5-Year Integrated M.Sc. Programme in Chemistry has commenced from the Academic Year, 2021-22. The Department is actively engaged in research in cutting- edge areas and contemporary topics of Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical and Computational Chemistry. The Department houses various state-of-the-art facilities such as a 400 MHz NMR, Solid-state probe, X-Band ESR, FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR and Fluorescence Spectrometers, LC-HRMS Spectrometer, Gas Chromatographs, HPLC, Electrochemical Workstations, Advanced Molecular Modelling Chemistry Software, etc., besides access to ICP-OES, CD-ORD, Powder XRD, SEM, TGA-DTA-DSC, BET, Fuel Cell Workstations, etc. As a part of continuing education and outreach activities, the Department has been organizing several National and International Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops. So far, the Department produced 150 Ph.D. students and published over 1000 research articles in various highly reputed international and national journals. The Alumni of the Department are well placed in industry and academia with decent packages. The Department is a DST-FIST center. The Department received a worth of Rs. 12 crores from various funding agencies. The faculty of the Department has served in key administrative positions of the Institute such as Deans, Chief warden, Registrar, Professors-in-Charge of TLC, CAI, RAA, DST- SCoPE, Members of Board of Governors, Heads of Allied Departments, Coordinator of Erasmus Mundus Indo-Europe Academic Exchange Programs like HERITAGE, EUPHRATES. Some of the faculty members have been recognized as either Institute Level Best Teachers or Best Researchers in Sciences and some faculty members are Fellows or Associate Fellows of the prestigious Telangana Academy of Sciences.

National Institute of Technology Warangal, formerly known as Regional Engineering College was established in 1959. Over the years it has developed into a premier institute of higher learning and is ranked among the top technical education institutions in India. There are 14 Departments offering eight undergraduate and 35 post- graduate programs besides doctoral programmes in all areas of science and technology, management, humanities, physical education and has MoUs with many international and national institutions, industries and public sector organizations. About Warangal


Warangal is about 135km from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. It is well connected by rail and road. It is well known as an educational centre. Once, the capital of the great Kakatiya Kingdom and earlier known as Orugallu or Ekasilanagaram, Warangal still retains its importance as the cultural centre of the Telangana. It finds an important place in the tourist map of Telangana with sites of archaeological significance like the Warangal fort, Thousand Pillars temple, Bhadrakali templeand Ramappa temple. The three lakes namely Ramappa, Pakhal and Laknavaram and the wild life sanctuaries at Tadwai and Pakhal are famous for sightseeing.
